– Past and Present in the Utilization of Resources in the Ceja de Selva, Peru<\/h6>\n

The Forgotten Valleys is the first of three books of the series Ethnographic Monographs by Inge Schjellerup<\/a> et al.<\/p>\n

This book is about historical ecology and environmental studies carried out in 2000-2001 by a team of archaeologists, anthropologists, botanists and geographers in north-eastern Peru.<\/p>\n

During the last five hundred years the montane forest landscapes in the Huambo valley and La Meseta, the provinces of Rodriguez de Mendoza and Huallaga were modified by tribal groups, the Chachapoyas and the Inca cultures<\/a> and later by the invasion of the Spaniards. Today population pressure from the highlands is the cause of the transformations of the biologically diverse cloud forest.<\/p>\n

The Forgotten Valleys has two parts with the same content. The first part is in Spanish and the last part in English.<\/p>\n

Es el primero de los tres libros de la serie Ethnographic Monographs.<\/p>\n

Este libro trata de las investigaciones sobre ecolog\u00eda hist\u00f3rico y estudios ambientales realizados en los a\u00f1os 2000-2001 por un equipo de arque\u00f3logos, antrop\u00f3logos, bot\u00e1nicos y ge\u00f3grafos en el noreste del Per\u00fa.<\/p>\n

Durante las cinco \u00faltimas centurias los paisajes del bosque montano en las cuencas del r\u00edo Huambo y r\u00edo Jelache ubicadas en las provincias de Rodr\u00edguez de Mendoza y Huallaga, fueron modificados por grupos tribales, de las culturas Chachapoyas e Incas y m\u00e1s adelante por la invasi\u00f3n de los espa\u00f1oles. Hoy en d\u00eda la acelarada migraci\u00f3n campesina de la Sierra, est\u00e1 causando violentas transformaciones en la diversidad biol\u00f3gico de los bosques montanos.<\/p>\n
